In today’s world where everything happens so fast and people experience so many things every day, it’s practically impossible not to feel stressed out. The fast pace of our life is taking its toll and the result is stress piling up every day. That is why having a vent is extremely important. We always strive for creating a balance between all aspects of our life, and de-stressing is a vital part of creating and maintaining this balance. This doesn’t mean you should do some crazy exercises or buy a super-expensive luxury spa monthly pass, but simply find something that feels good and helps you relax regardless of whether or not it can be described as “relaxing”. However, if you’re having problems finding that something, here are some things you can try.
When everything starts feeling like too much, take a break and go on a 10-minute walk. It’s an instant de-stressing action as it includes changing your environment, focusing on breathing and getting in touch with nature, all combined with an actual physical activity – walking.
Progressive muscle relaxation
This may seem silly, but it’s really effective. Clench your muscles hard, keep them clenched for some time, then release. Start with your toes and work your way up. The whole process won’t take longer than five minutes, and you’ll see that it works like a charm. It’s not a long-term solution, but it is a quick fix we all need at some point during stressful times.
See your friends
We often deprive ourselves of any enjoyable activities during stressful times due to the huge amount of work we have. This is not good. Setting aside an hour or two for hanging out with your friends can have an amazing effect on you. Whether you laugh together or complain about problems, it relieves stress either way. Laughing causes your organism to release endorphins and talking about problems makes you feel accepted and understood, which provides comfort.
Dance it out
Dancing can be both a quick fix and a long-term solution. Whether you’d like to join some cool and fun beginner dance classes for adults or simply play your favourite tune during a stressful period and dance it out while you’re at home, it’s always effective. Make sure to choose something with a good rhythm and just dance like nobody’s watching. It feels great!
Another way to de-stress is to do something manually. For instance, you could take up knitting, sewing, jewellery making or painting. It can really be anything done by hand. It will allow you to express your creative side and be mindful in the way that you’ll only be focusing on what you’re doing at that moment. Plus, it feels good, and you’ll end up with a new piece of clothing or a new pair of earrings for yourself or your loved ones.
We often tend to neglect ourselves during stressful times. This is a mistake and as soon as you notice it, correct it. The solution could be a nice relaxing bath or a homemade face mask, some nice body milk, a new hair product, or a high-quality skin cream. Be kind to yourself, you’ll definitely feel better afterwards.
As you can see, there are many ways to de-stress. The only problem is that we keep forgetting to do that, or we just don’t want to do it. De-stressing helps us stay focused on what we are doing and actually makes us even more productive. That is why we need to always be aware of our stress levels instead of keeping everything inside and putting off relaxation.
