My best friend is addicted to Starbucks. I mean really addicted. She has gone to Starbucks every single day for the last 4 years! It doesn't help her addiction that she got a job there. Even with her employee discount, she is still paying about $5.00 a day! That can really add up. That is about $150.00 a month. That is a bill! Or, $1800.00 a year. That is insane to me!
She told me that she found an amazing recipe from Pioneer Woman, and has been making her iced coffee at home and isn't looking back. There is a trick to the trade to make a good tasting iced coffee, and they have told us the secret. If you want step by step pictures, check out her post.
Another great idea from my best friend, is to take some the coffee and pour it into ice cube trays to make coffee cubes. It will help your iced coffee from getting watered down too much. Fantastic!
(Adapted from Tasty Kitchen)1 pound Ground Coffee (good, Rich Roast)
8 quarts Cold Water
Half-and-half, whole milk, 2% milk, or Skim Milk. (Healthy Splash Per Serving)
Sweetened Condensed Milk, flavored syrups, sugar, or artificial sweeteners. (2-3 Tablespoons Per Serving,)
In a large container, mix ground coffee with water. Cover and allow to sit at room temperature eight hours or overnight.
Line a fine mesh strainer with cheesecloth and set over a pitcher or other container. Pour coffee/water mixture through the strainer, allowing all liquid to run through. Discard grounds.
Place coffee liquid in the fridge and allow to cool. Use as needed.
To make iced coffee, pack a glass full of ice cubes. Fill glass 2/3 full with coffee liquid. Add healthy splash of half-and-half. Add 2-3 tablespoons sweetened condensed milk (can use plain sugar instead) and stir to combine. Taste and adjust half-and-half and/or sweetened condensed milk as needed.
