If you like using eyeliner this is good for you. You need to line all the way around your eye top and bottom and make sure they connect at the tearduct or the inner corner of your eye. Having eyeliner all the way aroun your eyes will close them in making them look smaller. And this is coming from a girl with large eyes too. Good luck!

What about if you're older and your eyelids are starting to droop a little. Not much but just a little. Plus I wear glasses. I have been told my eyes are one of my best features but I'm in my 50's now and don't want to apply eye make up the way I did when i was in my 20's. Any advice would really be helpful. Sorry had to put anonymous. Don't like my age put out there. But really need some advice on eye make up. I would love to be able to line my eyes but don't want to look like I'm trying to be younger than I am. My eyes are green, large, almond shaped.

I don't want them to appear smaller I just want to learn how to apply makeup on them without looing harsh. I think if you put liner all the way across top and bottom that's too much. I've heard you only need to put the eyeliner halfway across your eyelid - letting your pupil be the stopping point on both top and bottom. Idk... I didn't just copy and paste from a magazine or website which is what your last comment is referring to. As far as agreeing with the girl that said I plagiarized, I never stated that I came up with the points from this particular post. This article is about professional make-up artists quotes that I found from all over the web, which I stated at the beginning of my post. I tried to give you a lot of ways to wear eye make-up without looking harsh and how to wear with glasses, and I think I gave you some pretty great options. I'm sorry if you were disappointed.

Are you sure you are reading the correct post? The post I put up yesterday, specifically for your questions? Nowhere on the post from yesterday did I say to line both the top and bottom eyelid, in fact here is exactly what I said,
"Avoid lining your lower lash line. It closes your eye, makes them look smaller and older."
I read what she wrote and I'm a professional make-up artist for a very predominant brand and all the tips she gave are right on point and good advice for older women.
Did you even read the article Victoria? Or did you just scan it over and comment even though you don't know what you're talking about. She never said to line the whole eyelid. Maybe you should read the post more carefully.
Remember, you asked her for advice, just because you didn't like it doesn't mean she's wrong. You obviously don't know either, or you wouldn't have asked her.
The fact that you wrote an entire post to answer her question, rather than just answering her in the comments like a lot of bloggers do, shows your dedication to your blog and your readers.
That lady is just ignorant and disrespectful and I hope she doesn't get you down. I love your blog and I have learned so many different things from your posts.
She has deleted what she wrote back to me. She didn't refer to anything about glasses and she DID say to line your top and bottom eyelids. The person writing this blog doesn't know any more than the average female knows. I noticed she has at the top of this blog is an area on Health. Wow. Such drama. Give the blogger a break. Victoria maybe you should research and write your own blog and make up tips? That way you will learn and be able to write with perfection and remember to site all of your sources. Nobody is perfect. It does not appear that the blogger could make you happy no matter what she does or says - you clearly are going to jump down her throat.
I think what may have happened is that Victoria became confused as to when the blogger was posting and when a reader was posting. If you're not used to forum/comment board format it could be confusing to follow. Not excusing her rudeness, but that just seems to be what happened and may be why she keeps referring to the blogger as "she" instead of "you" when answering the author. Odd back and forth to follow- great tips either way! :) I'm definitely going to show my mother the tips for mature women, she'll love it!
Personally, I've always stayed away from black pencil liner and all liquid liner. I'm rather pale with dark gold hair (loreal golden blonde, hehehe), and light eyes which vary in color between turquoise and olive. Close up, they're blue with yellow flecks but take on different hues depending on what I'm wearing.
I line the top lashed only with a dark gold or light brown pencil then smudge the line into the lashes. The goldish brown color accents my eye shade nicely and the soft line provides definition without looking harsh. A sweep of black mascara is all I need after that; no shadow at all. I've never lined the lower lid at all.
I've done this since I was very young and needed just enough eye makeup to avoid looking like a goldfish. :D Now that I'm 47 (yeeps) the colors and technique are still serving me well. The soft brown calls attention to my eyes and not my little lines. Many days I skip the mascara and just to au naturel.
Don't be afraid to try shades besides black, you might be pleasantly surprised. And remember that soft pencil blending can create wonderful, soft eyes.
wow. who knew there could be so much drama and debate over make up tips. I found the ridiculous comments almost as fascinating as the blog! Some people just seem to look for people to start stuff with on the web..they are most likely too cowardly to do this face to face & probably feel better about themselves when they create drama online. I am thankful for any ideas. Keep up the good work. I don't care were it came from. Too many people always wanting to point out any reason to make someone feel bad or that they have done something wrong. What a loving world we live in.
With everyone wanting to make their eyes seem larger, perhaps you should be happy that you have big beautiful eyes instead of trying to make them look smaller. There are girls green with envy that you've got those eyes.

So, to have "sexy" and "open" eyes, could I use the white eyeliner in addition to the black and brown? Or would it end up just creating a grey and light brown color?

To get the 'sexy' and 'open' look for your eyes, I would line your bottom lid with the white eyeliner and line the top with your black or brown liner. You can also finish your eyes with your black or brown liner with a winged tip.

Hello MTS! I just ran across your blog on Pinterest and I absolutely LOVE it! I'll be turning 30 in November (EEEEEK!!!) and have just recently started playing around with professional grade makeup (smashbox, too faced, dior, etc.) Do these kinds of expensive makeups make a difference? Keep up the good work! ;)
Try using the color of the flecks in your eyes. It is supposed to make the green pop. Also, like the other posters mentioned, purple works well.

Hi Amber! Thanks so much for commenting. I'm so happy to hear you like my site! As far as wearing inexpensive or more expensive makeup, I do think more expensive makeup does make a difference. You can't really find matte lipstick because shimmer is less expensive to use as a filler. Mascara does make a difference but at the same time, for hygienic reasons, you might want to go with a cheaper brand since you should replace it every three months. Eye shadow can be less expensive as long as you have a primer or foundation on. I also prefer more expensive foundation. However, I really like Revlon primer. It makes my foundation look flawless.

As for your eyes, have you tried using a eye shadow primer around that? I will hold the pencil in place all day. I would also try using a cream eye shadow that you can apply in a straight line with a thin brush. That is liquid and pencil in one.

Thicker and darker limbal rings are known to make eyes pop but unfortunately your limbal ring starts to fade as early as in your 20s according to studies. There is now a limbal ring implant that can permanently make your eyes pop and maintain your youthful appearance. The cosmetic procedure is called ophthoglow.
I read a study about Limbal Rings and how thicker ones also make you look more attractive to the opposite sex! That is so cool that there is a procedure for this. Would love to know more)

You have a post about dark circles underneath the eyes... i have the same problem and have researched that putting a slice of potato over the eyes and bottom part of the eyes will help (the way you put a cucumber over your eyes).the sugars in the potato are supposed to act as a lightening agent. Im not going to say this is 100% accurate but you can look it up.
