I couldn’t get enough of the Olympics this year. I found them so entertaining and I couldn’t stop watching all of the events and how people can get their bodies to be so strong, fierce and do some amazing things. I don’t know why this year was any different because before this year, I could have cared less about the Olympics. I even had the Olympics in my hometown of Utah in 2002, and that was amazing. And by amazing, I mean the parties every night were amazing. I didn’t attend one event, but I did go out every night and wake up every morning with a hangover. I am pretty sure that I made out with a bronze medal Olympian from Denmark. I could not tell you what sport he medaled in, but hey, I was only 22.
My point is that it is interesting to me to see what priorities have changed through the years. This year I was totally rooting for Lolo Jones,30, the track and field hurdler Olympian. Even though she didn’t earn a medal, she came close coming in 4th. I still thought she did a great job, and she is still an Olympian. Lolo also turned 30-years-old during the Olympics. Gotta love that.
To train for the Olympics, Lolo made a lot of shakes for her post-workout meals. It turns out that Jones used to make shakes for a living as a professional shake-maker.
“To kind of make ends meet while I trained, I worked at a gym, making protein shakes,” Jones told TODAY. “And little did I know … it’s key for an athlete to have a protein shake within 15 to 20 minutes after a workout.”
Lolo uses a handful of strawberries, a whole banana, spinach, a couple tablespoons of protein powder, a little bit of honey and water, with optional ice, and then blends it all together.
“The key about spinach is, they say you can add it to any protein shake and you won’t tell the difference,” explained Jones. “You can taste it a little bit. They lied, but it’s really healthy for you. I’m so tired of these, I’ve had (them for) 365 days” she joked. “I actually love the protein shakes because you can make them a million different ways.”
She drinks a variation of this shake after each and every workout. Now if those shakes could just give me the body that she has.
