3 Heathcare Business Ideas For Non Healthcare Entrepreneurs

January 4, 2026 By Erin Kennedy Leave a Comment

If you’re a business owner you might have ruled out the idea of starting up any kind of healthcare businesses because you’re not qualified in this area. However, you don’t actually need to be a doctor or any kind of health professional to be able to make money in the area of health and wellness. Instead of seeing your lack of qualification as a barrier, you just look at where ownership and organisation fit alongside the work that medical professionals already do. There are lots of great ways you can safely and legally still help people in a medical way without being directly responsible for their care, here are some of the ways to go about it.

Online pharmacy
Did you know that you can run an online pharmacy without being a pharmacist yourself? You will just need to hire a qualified pharmacist to work for you. You can set up the business and then hire people with the correct qualifications and expertise, it’s a good area to get involved in because online pharmacies are booming. With new medications like weight loss injections now being a huge part of people’s lives, online pharmacies are needed to be able to provide services and medications to patients quickly and safely. Something else you’ll need to think about with online pharmacy businesses specifically is how you’ll take payments, because pharmacies and health products aren’t always treated the same way as regular retail. If you’re also selling supplements or wellness products alongside prescriptions then you may find that some standard processors aren’t keen on the risk, which is why people in the industry start looking into how to get a nutraceutical merchant account. This kind of account is designed for businesses that deal with health and supplement transactions, so your payments are less likely to be frozen or flagged.

Health and wellness coaching
Sharing your health and wellness knowledge and your personal experience of what’s worked for you can be useful for people who want support, but don’t feel confident making changes on their own. You don’t always need formal qualifications to start coaching although it’s of course to stay within what you genuinely understand and keep your advice grounded and realistic so it actually helps. There are plenty of courses and things you can do online to give you the information that you need. Coaching usually involves having real conversations with clients about how they live and what gets in the way of their goals, and what sorts of things might be possible for them in practical terms. From there it’s about then working with them to find small changes they can stick to. Over time, people tend to come back because they value the way you communicate and the way you help them make progress that feels achievable, instead of feeling as though they’re being pushed through a rigid programme. You could coach in person or online, or even do this to an audience indirectly with a blog or a Tiktok channel.

Healthcare app
If you’re an app developer and have experience in creating apps, have you ever considered creating a healthcare app? If you’re smart about it and solve a problem for people with a particular condition that’s not currently being looked into with an app then you could make their lives so much easier and it’s a great business opportunity. The strongest ideas for businesses usually come about from fixing one everyday frustration properly instead of trying to pack in every feature at once, so be sure to do your research. See what kinds of trackers, timers and other features people with a specific healthcare condition might need? See what’s already out there and look for a gap in the market, as with anything in business it’s all about finding your niche. From there it’s worth connecting with people who have the condition to test the app and also learn as much about it as possible. That way you know you’re providing people with a very specific and useful thing that they need which is always the best way to do business when the markets are already so saturated.
