When Girl Meets 30

Vodka Spiked Gummy Bears

January 3, 2012 By Erin Kennedy 13 Comments

I was watching a news program about what all the kids are doing to get drunk these days. They are always coming up with new ideas to sneak it, or make it taste better. Although I think  it is not very responsible for these teenage kids to do, it is genius. I am not a teenager, and well over the approved drinking age, so I took a note from the kids and decided to try out one of their newest ideas.

This is an easy and very rewarding treat. However, I did experience some do’s and don’ts to this process. Apparently, gummies act like a sponge and just soak up the vodka. I just used regular vodka. I was nervous to try a flavored vodka because I thought it might interact with the gummie candy flavor and it might not taste very good. Now that I have tried it, I think it might be okay and I will try whipped cream vodka next time.

  • Put your gummies in a glass dish
  • Fill the dish with vodka so that they are submerged
  • Cover with plastic wrap and put into the refrigerator
  • Keep in the fridge for 12 hours up to 4 days. The longer you keep in the fridge, the more time the gummie has to soak up the vodka. If the gummies have soaked up all the vodka, you can add more until your desired size of your gummie. They can hold a lot!

After 12 hours you can see that it is not that much bigger than the regular gummie, but there was vodka in there and it tasted good, but I could taste some of the vodka. After 48 hours all the vodka was soaked up from the dish, and you can see how big my gummies got! These were really good and I could not taste the vodka at all. Meaning: These can be dangerous. I don’t like vodka after too many times of it coming back up after drinking it, but these things were delicious and a huge hit!

What was not a hit were the swedish fish. I thought I would try them too because my husband loves swedish fish. These did not work out at all. I was surprised. It didn’t soak up the vodka as much, it just made the texture really gross and slimy, and the center was hard as a rock. I spit mine out! So learn from me, these do not work!

So for your next party or just Saturday night, I recommend these treats! Such a fun and unique idea!

Wow! Unfortunately teenagers seem to come up with the most creative ways to consume alcohol. Fortunately, I too am well over the requisite age limit, and these will be the star of my next house party! Thanks for sharing! And Happy New Year

I didn’t realize that you had to soak it for 3-5 days. I started soaking them at 6am, will they at least be halfway good by 7 tonight?

They will taste okay after 12 hours. You can still taste some of the vodka, and they won’t have swollen as much. But they will still work. After 48 hours, I couldn’t taste the vodka at all. That can be good or bad. ;)

Hey Anonymous, I wonder if it depends on the brand. I used Harbro and I did stir them in the vodka too to break them up. However, you can see in the pictures that it took about 3 days before they started to get bigger. How long have you been soaking them?

That is so weird. Mine worked great. I stirred them, and it worked good. Again, maybe it was the brand. I used Harbro and they worked awesome.

We just recently did this and soaked them for 8 days! They melted together and gelled, so we had to cut them to serve them. But ooh so yummy and EASY! I used name brand gummies and cheap vodka.
