Weight Watchers: Week 5 Recap

I have been putting off writing the recap for this week. I didn’t write up week 4 because I was out of town for Thanksgiving for the week. So here I am, writing up or both weeks after an eating holiday out of town to Philadelphia to visit the in-laws. I swear, I would weigh 500 pounds if I lived there. The food is amazing. I had some Italian food that is not even possible to get out West. Not to mention all the stops my husband had to make to his ‘food faves.’ Needless to say, I was am a little depressed at the weigh in this morning.

We were out of town a little longer than expected since our flight got cancelled on the way out. So I finally got back into town last night and trying to get back to business.

By that I mean, working on my blog and my diet (avoid these 4 diet mistakes).

I ate and drank a lot during the 9 days I was in a city of food. Between Thanksgiving and the Cheesesteaks, I don’t know why I would be surprised that I gained. It is always disheartening to see that on the scale though.

It was a little more difficult to diet (don’t make these mistakes) than I had anticipated.

First off, I didn’t bring my laptop, so I couldn’t put in my food journal online. I don’t know if I would have done that anyway to be honest. I received my points calculator right before I left and I love that thing. I used it a couple of times when I knew the nutritional value, but we ate out a lot (not at a chain restaurant) and home cooking, so it was hard to use the calculator. I think it will really help in the future. I try not to eat out as much when I am dieting, so that will be handy.

Charlie’s Burger in Philly. Truly Heavenly.

I heard, read and even wrote about a lot of things like ‘portion control’ or ‘Don’t drink your calories’ or substitute quinoa for stuffing. I even heard a tip; Don’t eat the green bean casserole with the cream of mushroom soup and onion straws but to eat steamed green beans instead. But what if you don’t have a choice. I think there is a large number of the population who is going to their relatives for for the holiday season and it is a little hard to put up a fuss about what they are serving. They are doing all the work and putting up a fight just seems selfish to me.

Well, as you can see, I can make many excuses for the time I spent in Philly with the fam. Maybe it makes me feel a little better. I don’t want to make the same excuses when I go to my home town or Christmas. Of course there, I have my hometown favorite eating spots. I need to get a grip on this. But for now, I can get back on the wagon. I even thought of doing a 3 day detox to get out all that crap. So down to the nitty gritty. I gained 6 pounds. Now, I ate late last night at the airport and weighed first thing this morning. So hopefully some of that will drop off quickly.

I drank a lot of this beer. You can’t get it anywhere West of the Mississippi. We tried.

I am going to try to keep on track and with my points before I go out of town again. So any positive thoughts or advice you have, send it my way. We could all use some positive support while going through this grueling and self-control process.

****UPDATE: I weighed today (Friday) and I am down 3 pounds! I thought that may happen since I am back in my own home and done traveling! Yay! So only 3 pounds up in 10 days! Happy, Happy!
