When Girl Meets 30

My Three-Day Fruit Fat Flush Experience – Day 1

April 10, 2012 By Erin Kennedy 4 Comments

I decided to try the Jay Robb three day fat flush diet (avoid these 4 diet mistakes). It seemed like a perfect time after the Easter feast yesterday. We were going to do some Easter baskets, but at the last minute decided not to, and it was probably a good decision so I don’t have all that delicious candy around. I can’t tell you how bad I wanted a Cadbury Egg. My mom used to give me one in my Easter basket every year, so it felt like I was breaking tradition, but I am sure that my waistline appreciated it.

So on to the cleanse. I am not a rookie when it comes to them. I have done many cleanses in the past. I have even tackled the Master Cleanse more than once. But that is for another post. I have done so many, that I can’t recall if I have tried to tackle this cleanse before. So I just went into it without any expectations.

The Jay Robb fruit fat flush is a three day cleanse. I actually wanted to do 5 days, not sure if that is recommended, but my best friend surprised me with some happy news that she and her hubs are coming to visit us on Thursday. So, I guess I will just do the three days, but it’s worth it for her. I am sure I will reverse all the good I did with the cleanse while they are here. There will be no doubt.

So what is the deal with this thang? This cleanse is invented, or created, or written (not exactly sure) by Jay Robb. He says that this cleanse is to clean out the toxins in your cells and flush them away with the excess fat and waste matter that is just chillin in your colon.  Robb says, “Fruit is nature’s perfect cleansing food, as it is high in water content, fiber, slow-releasing sugars, and nutrients that help flush out toxins by way of urine and bowel movements.” Yummy.

So, the first day of the cleanse is called the Pre-flush. It is just the protein shake all day long with a salad at the end of day. You are suppose to drink 6 oz. of protein shake every two hours between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Then an hour after you drink your protein shake, drink 8 – 12 oz. of water. At 6 p.m you can eat a salad with 3 to 6 cups of raw vegetable salad with 3 – 6 oz. lean protein or egg whites and 2 oz. of olive oil, flax seed oil or half and avocado and lemon juice.

Day 2 & 3 are flushing days. You eat a serving of fruit every 2 hours, with a 8 to 12 oz. glass of water 1 hour after each serving of fruit. At dinner time, drink 5 tbs. of protein powder with 12 oz. water and drink that with the same salad you ate on day one. I will get into more details tomorrow for my fruit days.

10am – I had a full glass of water. Just to get my day started. I also squeezed half of lemon into the water. It is not on the detox, but I read somewhere that this is a great way to get your metabolism started. Besides, I am never hungry first thing in the morning. I don’t really have Mr. Jay’s sched, so I am just going to do the same timeline, but at different hours.

11am – Well, I am starving now, and I don’t want to have a protein shake. Maybe Mr. Jay knows what he is talking about, and that is why he says to drink a shake right when you start your day. Huh. Well, I started this thing, and I already bought a whole shitload of fruit, I can’t go back now. So, I make myself a double. A double serving that is. I guess I just don’t follow the rules. Could I be messing up the flow of toxin’s out of my colon? We’ll see I guess.

3pm – This isn’t going so well. I am not keeping on the schedule, but Mr. Jay, I am a blogger and I have a lot of things to do and I can’t run to the kitchen every five seconds. So I had the 6 oz. protein shake. Just a little guy. I am not drinking enough water.

6pm – My husband came home from going to school all day, so I made him dinner. I wasn’t that tempted. I tried my best not to taste the cheesy potatoes that I made for Easter dinner. I reluctantly succeeded. I’m hungry but it isn’t unbearable. I decide to work out to help get my mind off of food. I walked on the treadmill for 40 minutes then took a shower.

8pm – The salad. I wasn’t hungry after I worked out, as I never am. This salad did not have a speck of salad dressing and it tasted like the best thing I have ever eaten. Unless you know me, you can’t really understand my love of salad dressings. Any kind will work, but of course the creamy one’s are the fave. Of course, I wouldn’t be needing to lose some pounds if I was fine with dry salads. But surprisingly to me, the avocado and lemon juice was perfect.

My salad yummy-ness:
Greens
3 oz. chicken
Tomatoes
Carrots
Cucumbers
Mushrooms

Note: Mr. Jay wants you to use his protein powder, but I am sure you can use any kind you want. But the protein powders should NOT include:

Casein
Calcium caseinate
Sodium caseinate
Fructose
Aspartame
Acesulfame-K
Acesulfame potassium
Sucralose
Sugar
Sucrose
Evaporated cane juice
Artificial flavors and/or colors

I apologize for the quality of this pic. I took this for Instagram. I was so hungry by this time, that I completely forgot to grab my camera before I dug in. Hopefully I won’t be too ravenous tomorrow to grab the camera.

On to tomorrow with lots of fruit. Do I feel a headache coming on? Uh, oh.

I would think so. It isn’t as recommended, but you could see how your results are.
