12 Home and Cleaning Uses of Alka-Seltzer

Does it seem sometimes that there are some items in your home that are just a bear to get clean and remove their smell? Yes! However, surprisingly to me, I found 11 uses of Alka-Seltzer that can make your life easier when trying to get things clean. Don’t miss the one health benefit that Alka-Seltzer can bring that can possibly save you a doctor’s appointment. Doesn’t hurt to try.

1. Clean a toilet. Drop in two Alka-Seltzer tablets, wait twenty minutes, brush and flush. The citric acid and effervescent action clean vitreous china.

2. Clean a vase. To remove a stain from the bottom of a glass vase or cruet, fill with water and drop in two Alka-Seltzer tablets.

3. Clean your jewelry: If you need to clean your diamond ring or any other jewelry (other than pearls or opals) just place in a bowl with warm water and drop 2 tablets and let soak for 20 minutes.

4. Clean a thermos bottle. Fill the bottle with water, drop in four Alka-Seltzer tablets, and let soak for an hour (or longer, if necessary).

5. Unclog a drain. Clear the sink drain by dropping three Alka-Seltzer tablets down the drain followed by a cup of Heinz White Vinegar. Wait a few minutes, then run the hot water.

6. Soothe itchy or sore insect bites: Place two tablets in a cup of warm water and soak a cotton ball and place the cotton ball on the bite and let sit for 30 minutes.

7. Clean baked on food with ease: Fill your sink with warm water and drop in 5 tablets. Soak your dish  for an hour and the burnt or cooked on food will be cleaned off easily.

8. Deodorize your smelly refrigerator: Drop a tablet into a 1/2 cup of water and let sit in your fridge for 30 minutes. If you still notice a smell, drop another tablet into a fresh glass of 1/2 cup water and wash the sides of the fridge with a sponge or cloth.

9. Deodorize your smelly cooler: Coolers can get super smelly after a few uses. Fill your cooler with an inch of water and drop in  tablets. Let it sit for an hour and wash out the sides with a rag. Smells will be eliminated!

10. Remove stain from plastic containers: Hate those tomato stains on your tupperware? Fill your plastic container with hot water and drop 1 tablet for small container and 2 tablets for large container and the stain will start to clear up.

11. Cure Urinary Tract Infection: If you think it may be the beginning of a UTI, take 2 tablets with water as soon as you feel the symptoms. Results have shown to be immediate. NOTE – Alka-Seltzer contains aspirin as the main ingredient.

12. Clean the inside of your coffee maker: Fill the water chamber of your coffee maker with water and drop in two tablets. Wait for the tablets to dissolve and then run through the coffee maker. Once the Alka-Seltzer water has ran through, run through again with clean water before you use again for coffee.
