When Girl Meets 30

4 Steps You Should Take In A Long Distance Relationship

December 22, 2020 By Erin Kennedy Leave a Comment

Have you recently entered into a long distance relationship? You might think that this is going to be more difficult than a typical relationship. While this can be the case, it’s often just a question of ensuring that you are taking the right steps. Here are some of the ones that we recommend.

Set A Weekly Schedule

Spontaniety is great in a typical relationship however with an LDR, planning will often be your best friend. Unfortunately, if you don’t set out plans then you could end up in a situation where you just never get time to chat, have meaningful conversations, or simply enjoy one another’s company on video calls. Ideally, you should lay out at least one day each week where you will be able to talk for a few hours or even watch a movie together.

Send Gifts

Be aware that for many people, their love language will be gift giving. It’s not superficial if giving and receiving gifts is the way that you show or understand affection. This is incredibly common and it’s worth noting that the gifts don’t have to be massive or expensive. They can be small and meaningful. They can even be something that you have written or made yourself. Buying and sending gifts overseas can be a complex process. So, it is worth looking at the cheapest and most effective ways to do this. After all, you will want to save a lot of your money for traveling to see your partner.

Treat It Like A Real Relationship

The temptation will be to see this as different from a typical relationship and due to this treat it differently. You shouldn’t make that mistake. If you want an LDR to work, you need to ensure that you are treating it like any other relationship that you might be in. This could include making and keeping promises and even setting out date nights. Don’t forget, dates can be virtual and you can even order pizza together to enjoy while watching a movie in each other’s company.

Devise A Long Term Plan

Finally, you need to make sure that you are setting out a long term plan that you and your partner can follow. This will become more important as the relationship grows. The plan itself will depend on what you want to happen together whether that’s moving to the same place or even getting married. Of course, a spouse visa application can be one of the best ways to pursue both goals. But you should also consider where you are going to live and how often you are going to meet until you reach the point where you can physically be together.

We hope this helps you understand some of the key steps that you should take if you are in a long distance relationship. It cna be a challenge to keep a connection like this healthy or even alive. However, if you are committed and you pursue your goals, together then you can certainly make this work.
