With summer just around the corner, most people start planning their time outdoors, enjoying warm weather and possibly going on new adventures. As the temperature rises and days become longer, there’s plenty of time to try out new things and gather up new experiences you can talk about in autumn around the fire pit.
If you’re out of ideas as to what new things are out there, here’s a list of 5 must-tries to add to your summer bucket list.
Try out new recipes
There’s nothing that goes so well with fine weather and outdoors as good company and good food. For most Australians, real fun in the sun is grilling on the Barbie so get creative this time and make an event out of your outdoor entertainment with some new recipes. Learn a few new skills as well, to go with the new dishes.
Also, plant a cute vertical garden next to your patio so you could use fresh, organic herbs in your new culinary achievements. It’s another activity that will keep you outdoors basking in the sun with your family and friends.
You could also try new recipes prepared by others recommended by an online guide. There are many excellent road trip food guides available that can set you off on a unique journey of exploration of your country through delicious meals!
Less technology, more outdoors
In this time and age, it seems nearly impossible to live without technology, but true memories are made with your loved ones in adventures, not on your phone. And, it doesn’t make it any more exciting or glamorous if you share it on social media. Just put down your phone and laptop, go out and have fun!
If you think you might get bored, use your technology to research interesting places where you can head to and relax, or try something new and exciting. It could be a trip to the national park, zip-lining, kayaking, hiking or camping.
You might prefer something more low key, like a picnic somewhere quiet by the water. Get your picnic basket out, fill it with cups, plates and utensils, grab your favourite drinks and pack some of that great homemade food you’ve been cooking. Don’t forget a cosy blanket and get ready to settle under a tree on soft grass and enjoy the views.
Head to the beach
With its world famous beaches, Australia offers amazing spots all over the country to enjoy summer and try new things. Summertime is all about experiencing new things and the beach is the best place to relax, so head out to the water and conquer your fears. Book a boat adventure, try paragliding or even parachuting from a plane and landing into the ocean!
If this sounds like a death wish, just try something different from your daily routine, like a fun swimming aerobics class or going snorkelling with a full face snorkel mask. It’s definitely something new and it’ll get you together with new people in a new environment. It’s a win-win situation!
Explore your own neighborhood and country
It’s truly an amazing fact how many of us don’t really know our own country. There are so many great locations in our very own neighbourhoods and nearby cities that most of us have never been to. Talk to your friends and see if they would like to join you visiting the local farmer’s market with great fresh produce, fragrant flowers and great local food.
You might also grab the chance in the season to go apple or berry picking and stay on the farm to learn how to prepare a pie with the load you had picked that day. Or, you could check out your own community and events that are held at the local youth centre or council. Most of those are either very cheap or even free and offer the opportunity for you to meet new people and see some great shows.
Volunteer
If you haven’t already tried, volunteering for a cause you support is a great way to give back to your community and have fun as well. It will also give you a unique chance to meet new people and learn something new about them, the cause and your own community.
Go off the beaten path this summer and experience new things. You’ll most certainly end up with loads of fun memories!
