This is How To Make Your Home Feel More Spacious

July 15, 2026 By Erin Kennedy Leave a Comment

Space is one of the most important aspects of a home. In fact, it’s so crucial that we are happy to pay a premium for more of it. But what if I told you that there were plenty of ways to make your home look and feel more spacious? The good news is that there are, and you will find them below.

Let in the light

One way you can make your home seem more spacious is to properly utilize light. Indeed lightest important because it will instantly make a space seem brighter and larger. With that in mind, installing mirrors in strategic positions around your room will help you control the light in the right way. This is because mirrors reflect light and so are effective and simple ways to make a smaller space look double its size.

Another option is to avoid heavy curtains at your windows. While they are good for keeping the heating, heavier when window treatments also filter out the light, which can make a space seem darker and more closed in than it truly is. Lastly, don’t forget that simply painting the walls of your space in a light color kind of helps to reflect more light and make an area look much more spacious.

Meld the inside and out

By melding the inside of your home with the outside, you can create a much better sense of spaciousness. To achieve this, you should use large glass sliding doors along the outside wall of your home. This will make it very easy to blur the line between the inside and the outside. Similarly, matching your outdoor flooring with your indoor floor will help do the same. This is because it creates a seamless effect.

Invest in space-saving furniture

One of the smartest options for creating a more spacious home is investing in space-saving furniture. Indeed, by utilizing customized space planning and organization in terms of built-in cabinets or Murphy beds, you can minimize clutter. Such pieces also free up floor space for general use, making them excellent choices for anyone trying to make a small space seem larger.

Definitely declutter

Of course, decluttering has to play a role in making your home seem more spacious. This is because clutter uses up space both physically and visually. What this means is that too much clutter can interfere with the flow of a room, making it seem small and pokey.

With that in mind, some clear rules about clutter in terms of both decorative and functional objects are vital. For example, you may choose to add meaningful photos to a wall, but keep all the frames a light colour, creating a more spacious illusion.

You may also invest in baskets or boxes that can be used to store functional items such as remote controls, books, and slippers. Keeping them together for when they are needed, but not left out to interfere with the flow and lines of your space.

Lastly, be sure to take time on a regular basis to remove any items that you no longer use. In this way, you can free up much-needed space.
