Avoiding Diabetes

May 24, 2011 By Erin Kennedy Leave a Comment

Diabetes can be a scary thought. Especially if actions in your life contributes to this disease. Here are a couple of ways to prevent it. It is not on the list, but diet (avoid these 4 diet mistakes) and exercise are a given. It is always important to just have knowledge of keeping your health in check.

Start taking this supplement:
USDA studies have proven that taking 200 mcg. daily of Chromium Picolinate lowers blood glucose levels by helping turn sugar into energy instead of fat.

Drink white wine: If you insist, I guess I will. Studies have shown that by sipping a 5 oz. glass with dinner can reduce a  blood sugar surge when you eat a bunch of carbs by 37%. That is enough to lower your risk of diabetes by 42%. Alcohol slows the absorption of carbs and helps raise insulin sensitivity.

Don’t skip sleep:
If you don’t get a lot of sleep, or skimp of getting enough because you have too much to do can hurt you when it comes to diabetes prevention. It can cause sugar disturbing stress hormones to skyrocket, which can raise your risk of diabetes by 34%! There have been studies that shows when people who have high blood sugar levels get at least 7 hours nightly can get their blood sugar on track within 72 hours.

Use the right multi-vitamin:
Make sure you get an iron free supplement, (if you are not low on iron.) Research has shown that if you get too much iron it can double your risk of getting diabetes. Excess amount of the mineral settle in the pancreas and liver, which can hinder your body’s use of blood sugar.

Call your girlfriend:
If you feel sad or depressed, that can lead to lack of exercise, and more likely to overeat.  Connecting with a good friend or a family member can leave you less stressed and cut diabetes risk by 34%.

We also have more ways talking to your best friend can keep you healthy and young.

If you want to see if you are at risk, you can take a diabetes risk test online. It is really simple. It takes a minute or two and can tell you if you are at risk. Diabetes.org.
