Divorce 101: Adjusting Quickly To A New Life

March 28, 2023 By Erin Kennedy Leave a Comment

The harsh reality is that anywhere between one-third and two-thirds of marriages will end in divorce. While I consider myself lucky to have avoided this situation, I do know many people that have gone through it. From relatives to friends, they have all come through the other side. And this should provide a source of optimism to anyone going through the process.

However, I have seen a clear contrast in how long it takes one person to get on with their life compared to the next. Having discussed the situation with divorcees from both sides, here’s my advice to help you adjust quickly:

Get financial and legal closure

The amount of couples I’ve seen drag out their divorce is mind-blowing. If the relationship is over, drawing a line under it is essential for moving on. Experts like Faster House We Buy Houses will enable you to secure a quick sale, even if the property isn’t in good condition. The equity can then be split between the two parties, either privately or through the courts.

You will also want to have your marriage officially ended from a legal perspective. Of course, when kids are involved, you should also aim to have issues revolving custody cleared up ASAP. It is the least that your child deserves.

Be happy in yourself

Following a divorce, you have to get used to not being around a romantic partner on a daily basis. While your future aim is to find someone else, you should recognize that single life can be great. Besides, you cannot give the best version of yourself to a new lover if you do not first regain confidence in yourself.

You can invest time in rediscovering hobbies, taking your fitness more seriously, or getting a new job. Those successes will underline your capabilities and ability to live a happy life without someone else. Especially your former spouse.

Discuss the situation

Your marriage ended for a reason, and you know it’s for the best. Nevertheless, it is natural to feel a little mournful for the relationship, especially as there were good times. Discussing it with experts like Trinity Wellness can work wonders. Simply expressing your thoughts can take a huge weight of stress off of your shoulders.

It is also possible to discuss the issues with friends or other divorcees. Online and local support groups can be very helpful. Alternatively, you can journal your process to identify any challenges that you must work through. it should speed things up nicely.

Change your surroundings

Divorce will naturally change the dynamics of your home life and relationship. Sadly, it can be difficult to truly move on when every other aspect of your life stays the same. While that doesn’t mean you should abandon everything, a change of scenery is needed. Moving to another neighborhood could be a good option. New jobs are another.

This is the start of a new chapter, so it needs to feel different. You can use a vacation as a bookmark to bridge the previous and next chapters. If all else fails, a makeover can make you feel like a new person. And when you look the part, you’ll feel the part too.
