Easter is this weekend and I wanted to make something that would be a perfect treat to make with the kiddies because it is super easy and super yummy. I decided to dye the rice crispies pink, because I like pink, but you can color them any color, or not a color at all. I was just being festive. I wanted to color my treats so the delicious caramel would stand out. Then I decorated it with some fun Easter candy and I chose peeps and some candy eggs.
Yes, that is yummy caramel that dripped on down throughout the treat.
This recipe couldn’t be easier. I just made the rice crispy treats as you usually would. I found the recipe on the marshmallow package. I then added the pastel pink gel food coloring. Just a few drops to make it pink. I added the food coloring while mixing the butter and marshmallows together.
I put the rice crispy’s in an 8″ square pan. (I wanted them to be little thick.)
I then made the caramel………
This was actually super easy, the only hard part was the temptation of not eating the whole bag. I bought those individually wrapped caramels. After I painstakingly unwrapped each and every one of about 3/4 of the bag and then placed in a bowl. I used 3/4 of the bag because I assume that is what was left after I had 1 or 2 or 10. It is hard to resit not just having some.
I then just put a bowl over a pot with simmering water in it and added heavy cream until it made delicious creamy caramel. I used about 1/3 cup. You may need to add just a little more to get a nice creamy consistency that is easy to pour over the rice crispy treats. Once it is a good consistency, pour right onto the treats and spread evenly. You want to do this while the caramel is warm so it will drip through the crevices of the rice crispy treats.
Just decorate as you please. Time it took to make this was about 25 minutes. Fun afternoon activity.
Happy Easter!

I could never have just one of those… I’ll take the whole tray! And if the peeps are stale, even better!! :D

You are exactly right. I ate one and literally packed them up and gave them to my neighbors! I knew that I could not keep them in the house. The caramel is just out of control.
