Do you have any of your old compacts lying around? I am not quite sure why I always kept my compact’s that have that little bit of make-up left. I think I always thought I would just crush it up and use it as a powder. I know I put off doing that because once I would apply it with a brush it would be way too much. So, I would just throw the old bronzers or blush in a drawer and go buy a new one.
The worst is when I drop my blush, eyeshadow, bronzer, or powder and it shatters. Too many heartbreaks, especially when it’s the “good stuff.” Not anymore. I have discovered a way to repair your shattered make-up, or make use of the leftovers.
Things you will need:
- Rubbing alcohol with at least 70% Isopropyl
- Medicine squirter
- Spoon, or butter knife
- Plastic baggy
- Tissue
Use the back of the spoon or knife to break apart the left-over make-up if necessary.
Pour the broken make-up into a plastic baggy. Note: If you are repairing eye-shadow it is easier to keep the powder in the compact and place the whole thing into the plastic baggy.
Crush the make-up bits into a fine powder.
Pour fine powder back into a compact.
Use the medicine squirter to completely saturate the powder.
Use the end of the spoon or butter knife to press the tissue with as much pressure as you can because you are re-compacting the powder. Note: For repairing eyeshadow, a quarter works great to apply pressure. Fits perfectly into a Mac eyeshadow.
Here is the finished result. I was really surprised how much bronzer I got out of my five leftovers. It’s practically a brand new bronzer. Just let it dry overnight before applying. I am so happy about this! Especially because I have repaired two eyeshadows already!

Neat trick! I didn’t even know this was possible. Thanks for sharing.

Does it not affect the condition/quality of the makeup?

I did not notice a difference in the makeup from the alcohol. I believe that alcohol is an ingredient that they use to compact the powder. It applied and looked the same as it did when it was new.
