Have you ever heard of the Master Cleanse? Have you ever done it? It is no joke. I did the master cleanse for the first time in 2006. I had been getting headaches for months. It was almost every single day. They were debilitating. Then came my breaking point. I had three headaches over the weekend. I worked 50 hour weeks and my weekends were my sanctuary. Having to be in bed all weekend in misery just totally bummed me out. I looked forward to my weekends so much.
That was my breaking point. I started researching ways to help my headaches/migraines and I read something about cleansing the body. I decided to give it a try and I recruited my mom to do it with me. Having a buddy or someone to do it with you makes all the difference to keep going. Even if it is just a master cleanse facebook group and you can find someone to do it with you for accountability makes all the difference.
We did it for 14 days. It was tough, but we made it through and I didn’t have a migraine for over 2 years. It was awesome. I started doing the cleanse about once a year. Then in 2009, I got a sore throat that just wouldn’t quit. I had it for months and the docs gave me three rounds of antibiotics with no avail. I finally did a 14 day cleanse and my sore throat went away after about the third day and never came back. I truly believe in this cleanse.
It has been two years since I had been able to cleanse because I got pregnant and I didn’t do it with the first year after having my baby. My migraines are on their way back and I am over it. I am ready to get back to eating healthy and get back to a healthy relationship with food. I know right now that I am addicted to crappy food and the cleanse always gets my body and mind back on track. I will learn so many things with this cleanse from addiction to it and resetting my cravings to healthy foods. It is long overdue.
Here is how you do it. You don’t eat anything and only drink the lemonade, Smooth Move tea, Salt Water flush and water. The minimum is for 10 days up to 40.
No food. No candy, no other beverages. Just the tea. The syrup is for calories and vitamins. Lemon is a natural detox food and has many vitamins, cayenne breaks off any garbage that is in your colon. Believe me, I still have stuff come out well into my 30 day cleanses, but only if I have cayenne. If I skip it, nothing comes out. I will be writing a post next week about the benefits of the cayenne. It is essential.
The salt water flush flushes out your colon with any debris. It is no fun. You make your drink of literally salt water, try to drink it down within 20 minutes. Within the hour you should have a huge elimination. It is not pleasant going down and you will want to be sure that you are near a restroom within that hour (or even two.) Once you get the urge to go, you don’t have much time to get to a restroom.
Salt Water Flush
- 2 Teaspoons of Sea Salt
- 1 Liter of Pure Water
Master Cleanse Lemonade
- 2 T organic lemon or lime juice.
- 2 T organic maple syrup. (see below)
- 1/10 t cayenne pepper.
- 10 oz spring or purified water.
- Drink 6 to 12 glasses per day.
Here is the thing about the maple syrup; there used to be three categories of maple syrup. A, B & C. C was the darkest and the richest in vitamins. For some reason they got rid of C and then it was just A & B. B was the choice to use for the master cleanse since it was the darkest. The darker the syrup the more vitamins it has. But just recently, the FDA decided to get rid of B category and now there is only A. But it is light A or Dark A. Dark A is formally B rating. So when you are purchasing your syrup, it is essential that you buy the Dark A.
So here I go. Today is technically day 2 for me, but I will be writing how it is going but if you want more details of my journey for (hopefully) 40 days, you can see my vids on my YouTube channel, or my instagram stories and posts on my Instagram.
Let me know if you have any questions or tell me about your experience!
***Disclaimier, I am not a doctor and I am just sharing my opinion of my experience with the Master Cleanse. It is not for everyone and isn’t a cure all. I just choose to do it for my personal reasons and sharing my journey with you. Each person can decide for themselves if this is something for you. Or not. ****
