Maria Menounos, 34, is on the cover of July 2012 Shape magazine. Maria has been so inspiring to me with her weight loss (new science-backed research). Maria has dealt with weight issues throughout her life and she has even reported that at one point she was a size 14 – 16. That is hard to believe with how fabulous her body looks now.
Check out some of her interview and what she eats to keep that rockin’ body:
On her many physical injuries:
“Don’t get me started on all of my injuries. First I broke two ribs, next I had three stress fractures on my left foot and two in my right, then I had some sort of tendon thing I don’t understand, and I think I may have broken something in my hand. It was so bad, Derek [Hough, her partner on the show] had to give me piggyback rides everywhere.”
On her father dealing with his diabetes diagnosis:
“My dad’s very disciplined. More than 40 years ago, he was diagnosed with diabetes and told not to eat sugar. He never touched it again! He took his disease seriously, which is why he’s so robust today.”
On staying strong during her ‘Dancing with the Stars’ experience:
“No one will ever understand the pain I went through to stay in the running, but it was worth it. To learn how to dance and have shared this experience with all my fans and loved ones was truly magical. I didn’t want my time on the show to end, but I’m thrilled and honored that I made it as far as I did.”
Here is what Maria eats everyday to keep her ship shape:
ALMONDS – “There are always almonds in my pantry,” says Menounos.
HOT WATER – “I drink a lot of hot water.” Menounos had us fooled with her Starbucks cup when she showed up at the SHAPE offices. It was just hot water, not one of the chain’s calorie-loaded coffees.
GREEK YOGURT – “There’s always Greek yogurt in my fridge,” says Menounos. With twice as much protein as regular yogurt, it’s a good choice.
SALAD – “I eat lots of salad,” says the TV personality.
NOT MEAT – “I’m an aspiring vegetarian. I try to eat the least amount of meat as I can,” says Menounos who admires her father who eats, “nothing processed [and] very little meat.” According to Menounos, “his body is great. Great muscles and great abs.”
FRUIT – “I eat a lot of fruits,” says the slim star. That way she gets a variety of vital vitamins and minerals.
FRENCH FRIES…OR DESSERT – “I have some indulgences here and there. Some days are better than others. Last night I had truffle fries, sweet potato fries, and a French toast dessert at Abe and Arthur’s, which was delicious,” she admits. “Definitely not feeling as great today—but it was really delicious!”
