When Girl Meets 30

Shake Up Your Summer Diet Routine with Greek Yogurt

June 7, 2012 By Erin Kennedy 11 Comments

If you have been a follower of mine for some time, then you know all about the ways I try to stay healthy and get some lbs. off. It has been a constant in my life for awhile and when I was approached by Dannon to write about their Greek yogurt, I jumped at the chance. I have been a big fan of their yogurt for some time and I have actually been eating it by the bucket loads lately for so many different reasons.

First –  I love Greek yogurt because of the texture and consistency. It is so thick and creamy, it’s like eating pudding or custard. I know that I have also been a big fan lately because it is cold and refreshing.  Living in this heat, that is all a girl could ask for to cool off.

Second – Greek yogurt has much more protein than any regular low-fat yogurt. I love to have it first thing in the morning, and it keeps me satisfied until lunch.

Third – Greek yogurt is so healthy and it helps me get ready for the summer swimsuit season because it fits nicely in my meal plans.

This summer, nationally recognized dietitian Keri Glassman and Dannon Oikos are encouraging you to ‘Grab a Spoon ‘til June’ with rich and creamy 0% fat Dannon Oikos® Greek nonfat yogurt.

It will help you stay on track towards your goals while at the same time adding spice to your normal routine! (see these shocking weight loss transformations)

I’m ready for summer and keeping up with a healthy lifestyle. It’s time to shake things up in my routine with tips from Dannon Oikos and Keri Glassman. And you can too!

Here are some tips from Keri to help you get started – be sure to visit OikosYogurt.com or check out their Facebook page  for more tips, messages, advice, recipes and more – and when it’s snack time, don’t forget to Grab a Spoon!

1. Every Meal Is A “Monday Morning”. Focus on eating better, one meal at a time. Otherwise it can be easy to get discouraged – forget the worry! Your only mission: Make the next meal you eat nutritious, balanced and satisfying.

2. Don’t Eat Around A Craving. Honor your craving with a conscious indulgence – take a few deep breaths and find a healthy alternative! Try satisfying your sweet tooth with Dannon Oikos® Greek nonfat yogurt, it’s nutritious but still has an incredible taste.

3. No-Excuses Exercise. Sometimes the biggest barrier to working out is just getting there so a good option can be to make it as easy as possible—throw in a workout DVD or even going for a walk takes away excuses and gets you moving!

4. Satisfying Proteins. A moderate-protein balanced diet (avoid these mistakes at all costs) with a reasonable amount of fiber, carbohydrates and the appropriate amount of healthy fats is the best way to maintain a healthy weight.

Dairy is a great source of protein, try a creamy Greek nonfat yogurt like Dannon Oikos®–it has twice the protein of regular lowfat yogurt. Oikos Greek Nonfat yogurt: 12 -14g Protein (24%DV), Regular lowfat yogurt: 5g protein (10%DV) per 5.3oz.

Giveaway

I’m giving one lucky reader a copy of Keri Glassman’s New Book Slim Calm Sexy Diet. All you need to do to enter is leave a comment answering the question:

How do you shake up your diet (eat this, NOT this) routine for summer?

Contest runs through Sunday, June 17 @ 11:59 pm PST. Please be sure to leave your email address so that you may be contacted. Open to US residents 18 and older. Void where prohibited. Good luck!!

Here are some of the way I’m going to shake up my summer. Three recipes that I use Greek yogurt for to keep me satisfied. I truly enjoy these delicious treats that are so healthy for me too.

Strawberry Banana Breakfast Smoothie
6 large strawberries, stems removed and quartered
1/2 ripe banana
1/2 cup non-fat Dannon Oikos Greek yogurt
1/2 cup skim milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon sugar (more or less, to taste.) Or if you prefer you can use Stevia or Splenda.
6-7 ice cubes

This is one of my favorite things to eat for breakfast. I love the non-fat plain Greek yogurt so I can add my own flavors to meet my mood. I just add 1 1/2 Tbs. oat bran. Few dashes of cinnamon and Stevia or Splenda to taste. I also like to add some raisins or nuts and it tastes just like oatmeal or an oatmeal cookie.

This treat is so good. It has a lot less sugar by using the non-fat plain yogurt. I like to add all types of different flavors of crystal light packets or sugar-free Jello. I mix it in my yogurt and it tastes so good.  I  love to mix this up and freeze it for a nice frozen yogurt dessert when I am having a sweet tooth moment.

Thanks to everyone who entered this giveaway to win a copy of Keri Glassman’s new book! The winner is Gail!

I have partnered with Dannon to help promote the Dannon Oikos Greek “Grab a Spoon” campaign. I have been compensated for my time commitment to the program, which includes writing about the promotion and product. However, my opinions are entirely my own and I have not been paid to publish positive comments.

My sister recently added this to her diet because of the protein content. I’ve tried it ONCE and didn’t like the flavor. She adds berries and sometimes Crystal Light to help the flavor.

I’ll shake up my summer by exercising more.

I didn’t like yogurt until I tried the Greek version. I have fallen in love with Chobani’s plain/honey flavors, but am now going to try Dannon’s- and even more exciting with printable coupons!

Hi Angela, I agree. I didn’t really ever buy yogurt but I love Greek yogurt because it is so thick and creamy. I like Dannon better because I think it has a thicker consistency than Chobani’s.

Dr. Regina, I agree with your sister. You can’t beat the protein content.

Thanks for entering the giveaway ladies!

I love greek yogurt and am mixing it into my visalus shake mix with a frozen banana, frozen strawberries, and strawberry frozen yogurt. This should keep me energized for a while!
