Welcome to July everyone! Since we are all experiencing the excessive heat warning this week, I didn’t want to put up another heavy Sunday brunch recipe. Who wants to eat that kind of meal, let alone make it. I decided to put up a smoothie recipe that is refreshing, delicious and there is no heat needed in the kitchen to make.
Also, since I have been talking a lot lately about how good berries are for your health, I thought this recipe would be perfect. In case you missed it: Eating Strawberries for brain function and clearing acne, or how Strawberries Can Help Turn the Clock of Aging.
Yields 2 servings
6-8 large strawberries, stems removed and quartered
1/2 frozen banana. It is better to slice banana and then freeze. It will be hard to slice otherwise.
1/2 cup low-fat vanilla yogurt
1/2 cup skim milk, or almond milk
1 teaspoon vanilla or almond extract
1 tablespoon sugar (more or less, to taste)
3-5 ice cubes depending on how thick you want it.
In a blender, blend together all ingredients. Serve cold in chilled glasses.
Another option to replace a meal is to add some whey protein. 1 scoop should do the trick. 1/2 tsp. of Flaxseed oil or seeds will help with health and weight loss (new science-backed research).
