I am not one to get all fancied up in holiday colors for every holiday. It is just not my style. EXCEPT for the Fourth of July. Perhaps it is my patriotic side but I will absolutely dress in red, white and blue all day long and show my American pride. It tends to be an easy combination to pull together because they are such basic colors that most people have in their closet. The key is to not look too over the top (perhaps an American flag dress might be a bit too much) but to simply compliment the colors.
If your Fourth of July is anything like mine, you also probably change a couple times throughout the day. We move from a 5K run and pancake breakfast to swimming at the pool and then follow up the evening with bands, food and fireworks. To make the transition easy, I think it is important to pull together one or two items that work for both and then mix them with weather appropriate pieces as you move throughout the day. I love the simplicity of the below striped red t-shirt and denim jacket, which are perfect pieces over a swimsuit and shorts but when the weather cools off, also work perfect with a pair of white jeans and a scarf.
By keeping it simple all day you continue to look classic, sophisticated and are still having a bit of fun with the holiday. All that is missing is the cocktail…
