|Whoa, what is up with this doll? It was too hilarious not to share! Lol!|
I have written about some of the things that I need to do before I get pregnant. I am taking my Prenatal vitamins, dieting and exercising and I have made an appointment with my OBGYN to talk about what else I need to do to get before getting pregnant. Looks like I have three out of the list of 17 from BabyCenter.com
My best friend knows that I am on this journey, whether she thinks that I am putting off getting pregnant by doing a “list”, or I am just being safe and thorough, she knew I would appreciate this post. If it were up to her, I would be getting pregnant as we speak. That reminds me, I need to get some ovulation kits at the store to find out when I am actually ovulating. But, luckily I don’t have to do that for a few months.
So on to the list:
You can click on each point and it will open another browser to explain more in depth why that step is important to get in order BEFORE pregnancy.
- 1. Schedule a preconception visit
- 2. Take folic acid (and watch out for vitamin A)
- 3. Give up drinking, smoking, and drugs – and get help if you need it
- 4. Stock your fridge with healthy foods
- 5. Give those cups of joe the heave-ho
- 6. Get your weight in check
- 7. Pay attention to the fish you eat
- 8. Create and follow an exercise program
- 9. See your dentist
- 10. Get in touch with your medical roots
- 11. Consider money matters
- 12. Consider your mental health
- 13. Avoid infections
- 14. Reduce environmental risks
- 15. Think your decision through
- 16. Figure out when you ovulate
- 17. Toss your birth control
100% get your body into shape. I am 33 weeks now and wish I strengthened my core beforehand. Good luck to you on this journey:-)
Here are some good tips: stock up on “anti-nausea” foods like crackers, lemonheads(more than likely will need them). Stock up on Tums, Zantac, Prilosec for heartburn ebcause it gets super vicious during pregnancy. Stock up on maternity clothes and start the college account NOW. They have some really cool apps you can download that will tell you when you ovulate. They really work!

Hi Beth, Thanks for that tip. I never even considered my core when I thought of a reason to get into shape. That is a really great point. Thank you so much! Thanks for your encouraging words too!
@Anonymous, those tips are awesome! I had no idea there was “an app for that” for ovulation. I should have known, but that is awesome! I will for sure check them out!
Cheers to you both and thanks for commenting!
One more important thing to remember…don’t stress about everything you should do. concentrate on a few important things and have fun with it.
Core is a must!
Also, think about more than just the birthing finances… child care costs can be CRAZY! If you need it, start to do research now and get your names on list. Some of the places by me have 18 month waiting lists… nuts.
Above all, don’t stress about it, have fun and don’t over think it. Enjoy the process vs. making it a routine/job like approach.
