Wanting More Privacy for Your Home? Check Out These Window Treatment Ideas

February 2, 2020 By Erin Kennedy Leave a Comment

We all like to think that we can enjoy a relative amount of privacy in our homes. After all, the places where we live are our sanctuaries from the outside world. The thing is, privacy isn’t something that all people can enjoy in their homes, especially those living in urban areas.

If that sounds familiar to you, you’ll likely want to discover ways of gaining more privacy in your home. But, when your neighbors have almost direct visual access to your home through its windows, which privacy ideas work best? Well, the good news is that there are a few different options when it comes to window privacy. Here are the ones you should be considering for your home:

Curtains and Blinds

When it comes to keeping out those peeping eyes from your home, curtains and blinds are among the top 10 window covering treatments you can invest in for your abode. They are cheap enough to buy and straightforward enough to put up. Curtains and blinds are available to buy in a variety of different styles, colors, and, of course, sizes. You can buy them off-the-shelf in various retail stores in a selection of sizes, or you can have some made to measure curtains and blinds fitted for you.

Window Film

Have you ever noticed that some commercial buildings like skyscrapers and even office blocks have glass that seemingly acts like mirrors and reflects the outside world? That’s because the glass used for those buildings contains privacy film.

You can buy window film that lets you see outside but prevents people from peering into your home from outdoors. Again, it’s cost-effective, easy to install, and available in a variety of sizes. If you can’t find anyone local that sells such window film, you can usually buy it from places like Amazon.

Outside Shutters

If you live in some part of the world where temperatures seldom drop below a particular temperature, you’ll likely want to keep your windows open for ventilation. Especially during hot, sunny days!

In such cases, how can you retain your privacy yet allow air to flow inside of your home easily? The simple solution is with outside shutters. When you wish to have some privacy, such as in an evening, you can simply keep your windows open but close the outside shutters.

The outside shutters will have slats that are angled so that people walking past your home, for example, can’t easily peer inside and see what you’re doing.

Frosted Glass

One final solution that works well in areas of your home such as the bathroom is frosted glass. In a nutshell, this is where the glass gets textured and offers a decorative and creative way to blur the glass. Because frosted glass boasts a “distorted” look, people will find it virtually impossible to see what’s going on inside.

Frosted glass is a great solution for bathroom windows, shower doors, and even front doors that are constructed partly of wood and glass.
