When Girl Meets 30

Why Is CBD Skincare Gaining Popularity?

September 25, 2020 By Erin Kennedy Leave a Comment

In the last few years, exploded in popularity. Once only found in health shops in the form of tea and drops, you can now find CBD in skincare and makeup too. Is it just a fad trend, though, or is there some science behind putting CBD in skincare and makeup? If you already take CBD, you have already benefited from the consumption, likely only purchasing the best CBD capsules and tinctures.

What is CBD oil?
CBD oil is the non-intoxicating product of the hemp or marijuana plants. When extracted, it is a powder, which is then added to the oil. The oil is usually olive oil, coconut oil, or hemp oil. CBD oil within your skincare cannot get you high as it contains little to no THC.

But what about skincare?
CBD has become more prevalent in face creams, body lotions, toothpaste, makeup, and face masks. And, CBD hasn’t been shown to have any negative impact when used in skincare, and there are several brands now that have CBD skincare lines:

–Herbivore Botanicals – they specialize in botanical skincare.
–Cannuka – a combination of manuka honey and CBD skincare.
–Kiehl’s – known for potent formulas they also have a cannabis Sativa oil concentrate for blemish-prone skin.
–Revolution skincare – high affordable CBD range, but the CBD is around 7th on the ingredient list.

Acne
Research has shown that CBD is ideal for reducing inflammation, so it is ideal to be used in face creams, face oils, and face masks. It is likely to have an impact quickly on redness and breakouts. There have also been studies on how it can reduce excess sebum production, helping balance the skin’s natural oil production – reducing breakouts.

Sensitive Skin
Sensitive skin can have a range of reactions to many skincare ingredients. However, CBD has been shown to have potent soothing properties for the skin. The skin-calming effect can reduce redness, tightness, and reduce the likelihood of a sensitive skin reaction.
All skin types react to stressors in their environment, and CBD’s soothing properties can help combat that.

Anti-aging and Wrinkles
CBD, since it comes from a plant, is packed with a range of antioxidants. These antioxidants used for wrinkles and anti-aging can counteract the impact of free-radical damage. This will help reduce a ruddy skin tone, increase skin brightness, and diminish wrinkles. Other antioxidants can also help, so CBD isn’t the only option, but it can be used in conjunction with others to help.

It important that you read all of the ingredients on a list of skincare, and when there is CBD within the list, you ideally want it as high up in the list as possible. CBD is naturally occurring, and like most natural things, our bodies are designed to make full use of them. More studies are required to really understand the full range of favorable properties in CBD skincare

Still, with so many affordable options and people seeing real improvement; it is no wonder it is gaining in popularity. In fact, it looks like it’s here to stay.
