When Girl Meets 30

Why Women In Their 30s Are Trading Big City Weekends For Nature Escapes

June 17, 2026 By Erin Kennedy Leave a Comment

Your 30s can look very different from how your weekend getaways looked when you were in your twenties. Many of the same women continue to find value in traveling and discovering new locations; however, most have experienced changes to their priorities. Many are finding less appeal with weekend trips centered on busy travel agendas and large crowds as opposed to experiencing a slower pace that can be calming and rejuvenating.

A New Appreciation For Slower Travel
The amount of time available for leisure naturally decreases as responsibilities grow. Many women in their 30s prefer choosing to spend their limited time doing what they want when they want it, versus traveling fast-paced to get to each new destination.

Traveling to a natural area has a feeling of freedom that can sometimes be hard to find in an urban setting. Simply being outside can give you the sense that your trip was actually longer than it was, and often more enjoyable, depending on where you go. Spending time walking on trails, breathing in fresh air, or simply sitting near waterfalls allows people to completely disengage from their day-to-day routine.

Comfort And Adventure Can Exist Together
One of the reasons why nature escape resorts have become more popular is because of their ability to offer comfort at the same time as an adventurous stay. Most nature escapes now provide luxury lodging options with top-notch food service and wonderful extras for guests, so you don’t need to sacrifice your desire to relax when traveling outdoors.
By combining adventure while staying at a nice resort, vacationers will find themselves able to spend the daytime exploring the great outdoors and then spend the night at a resort, allowing them to get a full “exciting and restful” trip.

Discovering Hidden Destinations
Another reason why people love traveling in nature is to find places that will have some kind of unique or unexpected experience. Some of the most memorable destinations are not the ones that appear on every travel list.
If you’re looking for a destination that’s surprisingly close to Nashville, Tennessee has a few hidden gems tucked into the Cumberland Plateau region, including Evins Mill, a secluded resort known for its waterfalls, hiking trails, and peaceful woodland setting. Locations like this offer a sense of escape while remaining convenient to reach, making them ideal for a weekend away.

Creating Meaningful Moments
Travel in nature creates a type of experience that is less about checking off a list of things to see. Oftentimes, while traveling through nature, you will pay more attention to your surroundings than to all of the details of your itinerary. The peacefulness of the early morning view of a beautiful lake or the excitement and beauty of walking down a scenic trail late one afternoon could be some of the most memorable parts of a long trip.

These moments often feel more memorable because they are simple and genuine. They provide an opportunity to step away from constant distractions and fully enjoy the present.

Why Nature Escapes Continue To Grow In Popularity
The growing interest in nature-based travel reflects a desire for experiences that feel refreshing, comfortable, and authentic. Women in their 30s are not turning away from travel. Many are simply seeking destinations that offer a deeper sense of enjoyment and balance.
