Have you ever thought to yourself that you might have a sluggish thyroid? I have. I think we all have. Especially when trying to lose weight (read the latest groundbreaking research), I am sure thoughts have run through your mind when you are not losing at the light speed of time. But there might be times when you should get your thyroid checked. Especially at our age. Even if you don’t have any symptoms it is recommended by American Thyroid Association to get your thyroid checked at age 35.
Here are some symptoms of a slow thyroid:
- Restless sleep
- Constantly tired
- Cold when other’s are not
- Panic attack
- Anxiety
- Difficulty losing weight even when on a diet (avoid these 4 diet mistakes)
- Poor concentration
- Muscle soreness
- Digestive problems
- Dry skin, acne or eczema
- Depression
- Hair that feels like straw and thin
If you are still not sure, because those symptoms can show up on a random Thursday. Dr. Oz has a test you can do at home. To find out if you are low on iodine, which helps body make thyroid hormones, rub iodine on the under side of you arm. If it absorbs with no yellow color your iodine levels are too low. You might want to get tested. Also, start sprinkling 1/2 tsp. iodized table salt on 1 meal a day, or take a multi-vitamin with 150 mg iodine.

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism last month. I have struggled with fatigue, aches, and swollen legs. Ever since I took natural porcine thyroid , I felt better.

howdy! I have had Hashimotos Thyroiditis since I was 22 (I’m now 36). Been on the regime of taking meds every day for 14 years now. Most likely will the rest of my life. I have learned how to maneuver with this condition. I’ve found that having an underactive thyroid can be both my best friend and my worst enemy. A frenemy. When I AM working out, the weight seems to melt off quicker, I am not SO conscious of what I’m eating if I am moving my body knowing my thyroid will adjust my metabolism to suit my activity level. Adversely, when I am NOT exercising (like now) my thyroid is like a 2 year old having a temper tantrum an SLOWS DOWN sooo much that whatever food I LOOK at… goes straight to my hips, butt, upper arms, face. Frankly, it’s aggravating.
I’d be happier if I could partner with my thyroid, learn to work together better. But for now, I know what works and what doesn’t…
Time to befriend my old friend again. Running shoes… here we come.

AND.. (sorry I forgot to mention) IF your a spiritual type 30 something… the thyroid is at your Throat Chakra or your 5th Chakra. The message of the throat chakra is communication and free will. INTERESTING…I bet most women feel there is SOMETHING in their lives that they do not feel comfortable sharing (a trauma, an embarrassing moment, a sense of failure or not fitting in) If we are more than our bodies.. I wonder why having an under (or over)active thyroid is trying to tell us.

Thanks for your tips and info Kerilyn. I have never heard that about the Chakra. I will have to look into that more. Thanks for the comments!
