5 Tips for Finding the Best Stylists for Your Look

June 24, 2026 By Erin Kennedy Leave a Comment

Finding the best stylists for your look is not always easy. You might be partial about your looks and like things to be done a certain way. However, you can help yourself with these tips.

Read Online Reviews (but be careful)
The first thing you will often do is jump on the web and Google what you are looking for. While online search is a great way to find company information and reviews, it isn’t the most efficient. If you Google “beauty salon near me,” you will get local results based on your location. But you will also get user reviews. User reviews are great for assessing a company, but you need to be aware that many are fake. Companies can hire digital marketing agencies to place fake reviews on their site as testimonials and in various places like Google user reviews.

Word of Mouth is Probably the Best Way
Word gets around when someone does a good job, and businesses get noticed. People love telling others about their experiences with local establishments like salons, supermarkets, and contractors. Businesses like these rely on your opinion of them. Which is why many put so much effort into customer service. Public views are great for you since you just ask around about the best stylists and beauty professionals in your area. And then make a decision based on the opinion of others. However, don’t just take people’s word for it. Visit a place yourself.

The Best Stylists Love it When You Pop in for a Chat
Whether it’s your hair, makeup, or professional cosmetic treatments, getting styled by someone is intimate. In many cases, a beautician will need access to sensitive parts of your body. Therefore you must be comfortable with the person doing your makeover. The best stylists are busy. But they love to welcome new clients into their salon for a chat about what they do and why they are the best choice for you. When you visit a salon before treatment, you are under no obligation to book an appointment, and they will never force you to make one.

Ask Questions While You Are There
When you choose to visit a salon, you have the opportunity to determine if it’s the best place for what you need. First, there are obvious things like checking the hygiene quality, looking for certification, and seeing how staff interact with customers. But you should also take the time to ask questions. Everyone is different, and you need to know if a stylist can accommodate your particular needs. For example, you may require specific treatments based on skin pigmentation or nourishing applications for your particular hair type. If they can’t answer, try somewhere else.

Reputation is Everything, and You Can Help
For a local business, reputation is everything. Look around your town center, and you will likely see multiple salons. Some will be full, and others will be empty. Why? The reputation, of course. It’s likely some simply aren’t as qualified as they should be. However, it’s more likely they aren’t established yet. Building a solid reputation takes time. However, just because a salon is empty doesn’t mean you shouldn’t enter the premises. The stylists might be perfect for you, and by using them, you can help establish their reputation with your word of mouth and online reviews.

Finding the right stylists can be tricky. But with some work and a positive attitude, you will find the perfect one for you. Check online reviews, ask around, and don’t be afraid to visit a salon.
