I have been hearing a lot about coconut oil lately and the benefits. I have mostly heard about the healthy benefits of eating it, or using it to whiten your teeth. It got me thinking, there must be some other uses for this magical stuff that we can use for some beauty hacks.
1. Oil Pulling
This is the number one way I have heard of using coconut oil. Swishing it in your mouth is supposed to cleanse it of any bacteria and a side effect is a natural teeth whitener. In the morning, start your oil pulling by swishing it around your mouth with a teaspoon of coconut oil. A minimum of 10 minutes but even better is up to 20 minutes of swishing.
2. Soften Cuticles
Sick of those pricey cuticle oils. Try massaging your fingernails and toe nails with coconut oil and it does wonders for your cracked and dry cuticles. The anti-fungal properties of coconut oil are also helpful for keeping toes clear of fungal infections.
3. Hair Conditioning
Coconut oil helps reduce protein loss. You can use this treatment when your hair is dry or wet. The best way is to add 1/2 tablespoon of coconut oil to your roots, and work down to the ends. Or, because I feel that my roots don’t need the conditioner and is greasier than others, I just start at the base of my hair and work down to the roots where it is most needed. Leave in your hair for an hour before rinsing.
4. Shave Your Legs
If you’re looking for a fabulous shaving cream that leaves your legs baby soft, rub a small amount of coconut oil on your legs before shaving.
5. Eye Makeup Remover
Wash your face and then use bit of coconut oil to remove the remaining eye makeup.
6. Rash and Burn Cream
Coconut oil helps to sooth rashes and burns. I burn myself almost every time I use the oven. I rub a bit of coconut oil on my burn and it makes it feel so much better. This also works with diaper rashes. Rub a small dab of coconut oil to help to reduce and even eliminate diaper rash.
7. Hair Frizz Tamer
Everytime I wear my hair back, I have those annoying little baby hairs that seem to fly all over the place. I use just a tiny bit of coconut oil and rub in between my hands and get those baby hairs back in place. Be careful not to use too much, or your scalp can look greasy.
8. Skin moisturizer
I use whipped coconut oil body butter daily! Now that I am pregnant, I have been using it on my belly to prevent stretch marks. But it is also known to help reduce scaring and prevent sagging skin. It’s a natural “miracle” cream! Regular coconut oil will work, but you ca also try whipped coconut body butter.
9. UPDATE – I just saw this hack on TikTok. This woman said that she oiled pulled with coconut oil, not for the teeth whitening benefit, which she said is a happy side affect, but that the oil pulling keeps her gums plump. When your gums are plump, it helps keep your mouth from sagging from aging. She was 54 and had no lines around her mouth and she looked 15 years younger than her age. I thought this was an amazing tip and I will start doing this immediately.
