When Girl Meets 30

The Right Type of Blush & How to Apply For a Youthful Glow

November 1, 2014 By Erin Kennedy Leave a Comment

Red toned cheeks can start to fade when we age. When we are younger, our cheeks have more color, so adding  a hint of rosy red is youth boosting, and who doesn’t want that? When choosing a blush, the red tones work the best for mimicking the blood circulating underneath your cheeks.

What blush should you choose?

If you have dry skin:
Try a cream blush and apply right over the apples of your cheeks. The consistency keeps the skin soft and moist while the sheer texture blends easily for natural looking color. Try NARS Cream Blush Cheek Color, Penny Lane

NARS $27.00

If you have oily skin:
Dip your medium sized brush into a rosier red color blush. Tap off the excess and lightly dab over the apples of your cheeks. Then take a clean blush brush to blend the color into your skin. You only need a little of the rosy red to make your cheeks bring back your youthful look.
Try Smashbox Blush Rush, Heartbreak

Smashbox $24.00

Lasting blush color:
Start with a layer of fresh moisturizer to that your blush will glide on. Use your fingertips to dab some blood-red cheek stain and rub it over the apples of your cheeks. To remove the stain, use eye makeup remover. Try Sephora COLLECTION Lush Flush Lip & Cheek Stain Red Wine.

Sephora $12.00

1. Blush is the last makeup. Finish off the application of foundation, lipstick, and eye makeup before you apply blush.
2. Tap off the excess blush on the brush before you apply.
3. Follow the line of your cheek bone up from the apple of your cheek to the hairline. Remember to keep the color light and blended.
4. Chose a color which goes with your lipstick. Try colors of the same shade or little bit lighter then your lipstick.
5. Never apply loads of blush, or else your makeup will look like a mask.
6. Apply a bit of shimmer blusher on the highest point of you cheekbone near your eyes to create a glamorous look.
