Huh, I’m Thirty???
On 3-13-13, I turned the big 3-0…that’s a lot of threes. When I was a kid, 30 felt forever away. When I was in high school, I thought 30 was ancient. When I was in college, I thought 30 would mean I’d officially be a grown up. Heels and suits to work, white picket fence, 2.5 kids, date nights with the husband, brand new SUV to haul my brood around…
Today, at 30 years and 6 months old, I wear Bermuda shorts and Sperries to work, I’m paranoid my dogs will get out of our broken fence, I watch my daughter have a meltdown because we’re out of grapes, date nights are typically my husband, myself and our one-year-old stealing fries off our plates, and my ride is the first car I bought after college with a few door dings and who knows how many Cheerios all over the back seat.
Looking at my definition of 30s throughout my life, I feel like the past 30 years flew by, 60 seems young and I feel far from being anywhere close to an “official” grown up. I look back at my first thirty years and am amazed at how much I accomplished and overcame. In just the past 10 years, I’ve made great accomplishments that I’ve worked hard for and am proud to brag about: received a BS and MBA, married my husband, ran a marathon, faced infertility and won! But the real feats are the things I can’t measure.
I moved halfway across the US to realize that family is more important than anything. I realized my body can do amazing things that I was feared. I realized I can survive Econ and Finance even though it’s still like a foreign language to me. Truthfully, thirty is absolutely nothing like I expected it.
I’ve always feared 30 but looking back and seeing where and what all I’ve done the last 30 years, I’m kind of excited about what lies ahead. One thing’s for sure, I do not feel 30. In fact, let’s be honest…I don’t know about you, but I’m feeling 22.

BIO

Alyssa is a daughter, sister, aunt, wife, blogger, book lover, crafty lady but her favorite title is “ma ma” to her 16 month old daughter who gives her a run for her money. She started her blog, My Husband’s Watching TV, just months before she and her husband got married in October 2008. At first, Alyssa didn’t think she’d have much to blog about but as they faced infertility and she turned to running as an outlet, she used her blog to document her journey. In May 2012, her blog got a new title, My Husband’s Watching TV While I’m Watching the Baby, when she gave birth to her beautiful baby girl. Her blog now follows the crazy life and times of a Mommy chasing after a toddler on the loose and she wouldn’t have it any other way. Isn’t it funny how life is NEVER what we expected it to be like? You have much to be proud of mama!

Girl, you hit the nail on the head in the last paragraph. 30 is the new 20. That’s how I’m feeling
