When Girl Meets 30

3 Simple Ways to Prevent Premature Aging

February 25, 2015 By Erin Kennedy 4 Comments

We are in our 30s and that is the new 20s, and I think we are pretty good at looking that age if we are careful and take care of ourselves.

Lower Your Stress
We are women. There is a lot that can stress us out. Family, job, finances, etc, etc. Unfortunately, stress is the main cause of wrinkles and gray hair. Which in turn can make you look a lot older than we are. The scientific reason that happens is something called telomeres. They are tiny strips of genetic material at the end of our cells. When they are shortened and thinned it makes us look older.

Exercise
One way to keep us looking young, and lengthen your telomeres is with just 10 minutes a day. Doing a 10-minute daily burst of activity such as fast dancing, climbing stairs, briskly walking, jump rope, anything that gets your heart pumping. Anything, even in short spurts have been proven to lower stress and in turn, help stop premature aging.

Multivitamin
Another way to lengthen telomeres is to take a daily multivitamin. Women who have taken this vitamin have longer telomeres and studies have shown they look biologically 10 years younger than women who don’t take them! Get poppin’ those vitamins!

The Best Women’s Multivitamin

According to Consumer Search, is One-A-Day Women’s Complete Mutlivitamin

This multivitamin contains the recommended 400 mcg of folic acid and 18 mg of iron that women require in their childbearing years. One-a-Day women’s also contains the recommended daily allowance of calcium, vitamin D, vitamin C and vitamin A. In addition, an FDA study on lead levels in multivitamins concluded that One-a-Day women’s levels were in the safe range for adult women.

Good thing I love to dance around my living room…

I can’t get enough of antioxidants, I’m 36, and most people mistake me for being no older than 28. I don’t drink as much water as I should, but I’m working on it. I do however make sure to protect my skin from the sun. I don’t spend a lot of time outside (just because it’s not my thing), and when I do I’m adorned with a big hat and/or sunglasses and a high SPF!

I also believe in laughing… laughter is good for the heart and keeps away the wrinkles!

Probiotics–very important no matter what your age. Also, keep using the sunblock, especially on your hands. We take care of our face, but forget that hands age too, and often they look older than our face!
