How To Protect Your Skin From Drying Out This Winter

November 15, 2017 By Erin Kennedy 1 Comment

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Head & Shoulders at Sam’s Club.  The opinions and text are all mine.

We are quickly moving through the year and we are getting ready to say goodbye to pumpkin spice and hello to peppermint.

While celebrating all things peppermint this season, we need to remember that it is not just to be celebrated through the holidays. There are so many benefits to using peppermint all year long and in my humble opinion, I think the best place to start is with your hair.

Now that we are moving into winter, all that dry cold air can wreak havoc on your skin. It is important to take the steps to protect your skin and scalp.

  1. Avoid hot showers. It might feel so good in the winter, but it will dry out your skin. It is best to take a lukewarm shower with a soap containing natural ingredients. Such soaps would be mild and gentle for your skin.
  2. Exfoliate your skin. You simply need to have some natural salt and sugar body scrubs to get this done. Exfoliation is important to remove the dead cells from the skin so that you can leave the fresh skin easily absorbing lotions or moisturizers.
  3. Hydrate. One of the best things you can do for your skin is to stay hydrated. Drinking the recommended 8 – 10 glasses of H2O is just as important in the winter as it is in the summer. Drinking water helps to replenish the moisture and hydration that is lost outside and inside (heated air indoors causes skin to lose moisture, too.)
  4. Sleep. This is so important to your skin. Your body repairs itself when you are sleeping and it is optimal to get anywhere from 7-9 hours of sleep to let your body do its best work. They don’t call it beauty sleep for nothing!
  5. Use peppermint. It helps to hydrate a dry scalp.

Peppermint and your hair go together like coffee and cream. There are so many benefits to using peppermint on your hair, especially if you are looking to make it grow. Here are a few of the benefits of peppermint:

  • Antimicrobial
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Helps cool an itchy scalp
  • Improves blood flow to hair follicles
  • Studies have shown that hair grows faster and thicker
  • Paired with Head & Shoulders, it is a monster force in getting rid of dandruff
  • Tingling and cooling sensation
  • Vasodilating (Blood vessels widening from relaxing sensation.)

You can get all that easily with Head & Shoulders 2-in-1 Instant Relief Shampoo & Conditioner. Formulated with peppermint oil and tea tree essence, it provides instant cooling relief for the scalp – especially important in the winter season.

This shampoo is one of my favorites. It is almost as though I am in a spa when I use it on my hair. The tingling and cooling feeling on my scalp feels so good!

Now you can get it at Sam’s Club, and through November 26th, you can receive an additional $5 in Instant Savings off any combination of two hair and/or body care products from favorite brands like Head & Shoulders, Old Spice and Secret. No coupon needed!
