When Girl Meets 30

Sex Box & Why It Is a Show All Couples Should Watch

February 26, 2015 By Erin Kennedy 20 Comments

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of WE tv. All opinions are 100% mine.

Let’s be real. Now that we are in our 30s, sex is different in every way than when we were in our 20s. Whether we are married or navigating this new world of dating in this digital age that is so different to us than it was just a decade previously.

Sex can be tricky. And I don’t mean physically. I mean emotionally and spiritually. It can really have a positive or negative effect on your relationship. In a relationship, we all have our specific problems, and a lot of the time, it can start and end in the bedroom.

There is a new bold and groundbreaking show that is debuting tomorrow night on Wetv. It is called Sex Box Show. I had seen a couple of previews, but I had no idea what it was about. Was it couples having sex in a box? Were people to see what was going on and critique? What was this about?

This show is summed up in three words: Extreme Couples Therapy

I am married and I think that this discussion of sex and relationships is very important for all couples to have. Especially at this age. It may be embarrassing for some, or taboo to talk about for others, but the message of acceptance and understanding is needed to be discussed.

That is what this show is all about. Sex Box is helping to change the way couples in crisis heal their sexual and emotional issues. Each week, different couples with a variety of backgrounds bring their issues with hopes of repairing their troubled relationships to the expert therapists:

  • Dr. Chris Donaghue, Sexologist and Clinical Psychotherapist
  • Dr. Fran Walfish, Relationship Psychotherapist and
  • Dr. Yvonne Capehart, Pastor and Couples Counselor

Sex Box is using a scientific proven concept in therapy to help these couples. They have figured out that the first 15 minutes after intimacy, your body is flooded with oxytocin and endorphins that enable them to really open up and talk about their feelings and the root of what is causing riffs in their relationships.

The couples really do have sex on stage in a box, but it is more of a chamber. It is camera-free, soundproof and you can’t see inside the box. (Sorry studio audience.) It allows couples to feel safe and focus on each other. Once they emerge, they get down to the truth of what is going on in their troubled relationship.

I think this show is truly trailblazing and can help a lot of couples at home to perhaps open up and share more about what is going on if they are also dealing with a troubled relationship. I think it is always important to communicate and be open, and this show is allowing us to share in this science and see how it can help other couples.

Have you seen the trailer for this show yet? if not, watch it here:

Sex Box is premiering this Fridat (tomorrow!) – Feb 27 @ 10pm EST on Wetv

Let’s talk about it. I would love for you to watch the show and come back and tell me what you think in the comments. I would love to get a good discussion going on this important, yet sometimes sensitive subject.

I had not heard of this show, but it is a very innovative concept. I would be up for participating if I knew I was getting the help my relationship needed from experts in that area.

I haven’t heard of this show. Sounds interesting. Although, I am not sure what it would be like to be these couples. Forced to perform knowing that you will have to go on stage to discuss what just happened. It makes me feel like we’re back in college and doing the walk of shame. lol

I think I might have heard something in the background TV noise while I was trying to do work, but I would check it out. I wonder how long this is going to last, and what the public’s overall feedback will be.

I think I may try and catch the show on some downtime. I don’t think I’ll have much success getting the hubs to sit down and watch, but maybe if it plays in the background he’ll come over lol.
