When Girl Meets 30

Thanksgiving & Holiday Fashion Trends

November 18, 2015 By Erin Kennedy Leave a Comment

It’s almost Thanksgiving so you’re probably going to wonder what you should wear. Looking beautiful doesn’t have to be a stress! Here are some popular fashion and accessory trends to consider for Thanksgiving and the upcoming holiday season.

Liven Up Your Little Black Coat

You’re going to need a coat if you’re party-hopping these holidays to protect yourself against the cold. Although black coats are always a winter staple, this season the trends show that coats are getting colorful makeovers. Choose one in a color that is versatile with your wardrobe and that you like because a bold color can work with a variety of different looks.

Wear the Layered Effect

Staying warm requires you to choose cosy outfits but make them look fashionable by knowing how to wear different layers of clothing simultaneously. What this means is that you should choose structured pieces for layers underneath that will complement your body’s assets, such as a shapely waist, while also containing warm textures, such as flannel and wool. When layering yourself with pullovers, jerseys and coats, don’t forget about your lower half. This area of your body provides the perfect place to bring in figure-flattering items, such as skinny jeans or tights.

Work the Statement Scarf

A scarf is not just an item to keep you warm when you head out into the cold. It’s a fashionable accessory that provides a flash of pattern or color to your outfit. Scarves this season come with interesting touches, such as being oversized to create extra shape or being skinny; being bold and patterned or sleek and neutral. With so many different styles available, your scarves will be warm and trendy.

Be Brilliant with Brooches

If you worry that your winter outfit looks plain, a jewelry accessory can easily take it from drab to fab. Brooches have made a huge comeback this season and they come in a variety of modern shapes as well as sizes.  They are also being worn in different places, such as around the neckline of pullovers and jerseys to provide a stylish punch to your outfit.

Warm Up With Your Metals

Metals are fashionable across the board this winter. When it comes to makeup, metallic flashes in the form of warm bronze, silver or gold bring an interesting touch to your eyeshadow. They’re perfect for making earthy tones a little more sparkly these holidays.

You can also play with different metals in your jewelry picks, such as by combining various shades of gold with silver or platinum. The result is a lovely mix of color and this trend works especially well with another one of the year: the stacking trend. Whether it’s rings, bracelets or necklaces you’re clumping together, the blend of metals puts them in the spotlight.

black and white

See Things in Black and White

The neutrals are always in fashion and they come in really handy when you’re not sure what to wear in winter. However, this year they make a bolder appearance. Fall/winter runways showed how black and white pieces became fluent in geometric patterns, optical illusions and stripes. What’s key is to limit their boldness to just one item and keep the rest of your outfit muted. You can also pair black-and-white patterns with jeweled tones for a richer take on the trend that’s perfect for winter.
Preparing your outfit for Thanksgiving and the holiday season is fun but remember to work your style with elegance. Draw inspiration from the fall/winter runways and don’t be afraid to make them  your own.
