Life is tough. We all deserve treats from time to time. But, most of us are guilty of relying on other people to provide them. We spend our time looking after other people. Working hard, keeping our homes clean and tidy, running businesses, taking care of our children and other family members, and being there for friends when we need them. We spend any spare money that we’ve got on the people that we love, or on homes to keep them safe and warm. We buy gifts for other people, for birthdays and Christmas, and we very rarely use our time or money for ourselves.
Treating yourself occasionally can be a great idea. Put yourself first, take care of your own health and wellbeing, and you’ll be happier, more energetic, focused, and more positive. You’ll be better at making time for others if you make time for yourself sometimes. With that in mind, here are some ideas for some awesome gifts that you might want to get yourself.
A gift doesn’t have to be a physical object. The best ones often aren’t. The best gifts as we get older, and start to collect stuff, aren’t more stuff, they are experiences. A spa day is a perfect experience if you’ve been working hard, you are stressed out and tired, your muscles are tense, and your mind is full. There’s no better way to chill out than with a day at the spa.
If you haven’t got the time for a full day, why not look for a local massage parlor or salon? Go for a massage one evening after work or on your day off. It won’t be as good as a full day, but it will certainly give you a boost. If massages aren’t your thing, think about getting your nails done, or your haircut.
Your Favorite Takeout
How about the gift of not having to cook? Of course, another option is going to your favorite restaurant for a meal. But, if you’ve got kids that might not always be possible. In which case, put the kids to bed and order food from your favorite restaurant. Then, leave the washing up for the next day, or even better, eat out of the carton.
A Girls Night In
Some of our best nights out tend to be nights in. When our friends come around armed with bottles of wine, sweet snacks, and girly DVDs, these are the nights where we let of defenses down. We talk without holding back. We enjoy time with the people that we love the most, and we spend hours laughing in a way that we might not in public. Invite your friends round for a proper night in. If you are looking to change up your wardrobe, you could have a Clothes Swap Party!
An Online Course
Education is something that most of us take for granted when it’s readily available. Then, it’s too late. But it’s not. Not anymore. Online courses are easily accessible, affordable, and open to nearly everyone. If there’s something that you’ve always wanted to learn, it’s never too late. Invest some money in an online course. You never know what doors it could open.
A Subscription to Something You Love
There are subscription boxes for near enough everything nowadays. Makeup, memorabilia, gin, chocolate, cheese, craft materials, and more. They can be the ideal gift for yourself, as they keep coming. Once a month, or less frequently, you’ll receive a small gift in the post, to cheer you up.
A Private License Plate
A private number plate is one of those things that we see, and think “I’d love that” but never bother to get. You might think that Private Plates are just for the rich and famous, but that isn’t the case at all. Private plates can personalize your car, and get you noticed.
Flowers
Most of us love having fresh flowers in the house. They brighten a space, make you feel calm, and make your home smell nice. But, we wait for other people to buy them for us. You might have complained that your partner never buys you flowers anymore. But, if you want them, don’t wait, buy them yourself.
Expensive Jewelry
Jewelry is the same. You might buy yourself fashion pieces, or items to match an outfit for a specific event. But, when it comes to more expensive or special pieces, you want other people to buy them. Why? If you’ve got your eye on something, save up and buy it. Every time you wear it, you’ll remember how hard you work, how successful you are, and how much you deserve it.
A New Book or Movie
When we’re stressed out and tired, sometimes escapism is what we need more than anything else. Buy yourself a new book or film, cuddle up on the sofa and lose yourself in someone else’s life for a while.
Pajamas and Blankets
If you want to get comfortable, you can’t beat cozy new PJs and blankets. Add a bottle of wine and a face mask, and you’ve got a relaxing night in.
The truth of it is the best gift you could give yourself should be something that you want. Regardless of why you want it, or what joy it will bring anyone else, it should be something that you want, just for yourself, just because you want it and it will make you happy. Whether it is something that will help you unwind, something to take your stress away, something that will give you more time with your friends, something that will make you smile, or bring you happiness. It doesn’t matter. Buy yourself gifts, even cheap little ones, as often as you can. Make time for yourself, and try to get into the habit of doing something for yourself every day, however small, and you’ll be happier, less stressed out and more confident.
